Exploring Ayurveda – From Finance to a Life of Balance and Well-Being
Join me on a transformative journey from the corporate hustle to a life of balance and well-being through Ayurveda.
My introduction to Ayurveda was unexpected, surfacing during my 18-year career in finance. It all began with a simple yoga class I attended once a week, evolving into a daily practice. Over the years, I extended this routine with meditation, making it a vital part of my life.
First Encounter with Ayurveda
In 2014, amidst a demanding project, I impulsively signed up for a one-week Panchakarma retreat in India. Back then, I knew next to nothing about Ayurveda and had no idea what Panchakarma entailed. However, the experience proved transformative, infusing me with the energy to succeed in my project. Though initially daunting, I embraced recommended dietary changes and even incorporated the Ayurvedic practice of tongue scraping.
Two years later, I embarked on a two-week Panchakarma journey, and once again, the effects were remarkable. This time, I was intrigued and wanted to learn more about Ayurveda. I delved into Ayurvedic literature, started to cook Ayurvedic dishes, and integrated Ayurvedic principles into my daily life. Yoga and Ayurveda played a crucial role in helping me navigate the corporate world’s demands, nurturing both my mind and body.
The life-altering decision
Amidst the challenges of the Covid era, I had a profound realization: my corporate job no longer resonated with my soul. Eager to support others and with a passion for cooking, yoga, and ayurveda, I desired a deeper understanding of what is beyond the Ayurvedic recommendations. This led to a life-altering decision to study Ayurveda.
The universe guided me to the Ayurvedic Institute in the USA, established nearly four decades ago by Dr. Vasant Lad, an author whose works had already influenced me. Enrolling in their full-time one-year study program, my aim was to achieve the Ayurvedic Health Counselor level (ASP1). It was an immersive experience, exploring Ayurvedic fundamentals, experimenting with recommendations, and sharing experiences with fellow students. Real-life clients became part of our supervised student clinic.
Thirst for Knowledge
My thirst for knowledge didn’t stop there. I yearned to understand how diseases manifest in the body, with various doshas at play. So, I embarked on the second-year full-time Ayurvedic Practitioner program (ASP2), delving into Ayurvedic herbology, marma therapies, and the intricate world of Ayurvedic and Western pathophysiology (disease process in our body).
During these two years, my connection with yoga deepened. I obtained a 200-hour yoga teacher certification, focusing on Ayuryoga – a yoga practice viewed through Ayurvedic lenses.
